Overview
We don't typically think of Audi as a bargain brand. But relative to its traditional three-row luxury SUV rivals, the 2025 Audi Q7 is a bit of an underrated value. It measures up to its BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS peers with a high quality interior, coddling ride comfort, comparable advanced tech and safety features, and a European pedigree. But it does it for much less than either of its German peers — about 30% less than the Mercedes — while sacrificing little in return.
The Q7 seats seven and comes with a gutsy turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It's nimble and quick, agile enough to please even discerning enthusiast drivers. Those seeking a bit more vitality can upgrade to the optional turbo V6 engine, capable of reaching 60 mph in fewer than 6 seconds.
For 2025, the Q7 gets a good scrub with restyled front and rear ends, including new grille and light designs. The updated look should give the Q7 more visual swagger alongside its more recently refreshed rivals, and carry it through to its next incarnation as a fully electric or hybrid electric SUV. Audi has pledged to introduce only electric vehicles after 2026.
And while the Q7 sacrifices little, it does ultimately give up something, namely size. Slightly larger than a typical midsize SUV, the Q7 is still 5 to 6 inches shorter than the X7 or GLS, offering less cargo space and less expansive third-row accommodations.
But the Q7 offers performance and utility equal to or better than similarly sized and priced rivals like the Acura MDX, Lincoln Aviator, and Volvo XC90.
Positives
Standard all-wheel drive. Two strong engine options. Excellent value for a three-row luxury SUV.
Considerations
Limited cargo space. Tight third row.
Verdict
A round of styling updates and minor tech tweaks inject the 2025 Audi Q7 with new vigor. Standard all-wheel drive, seating for seven, and an attractive price make the Q7 a surprisingly good value, even if it's not as spacious as its European competitors.
What's New for2025
The 2025 Audi Q7 finally gets an overdue new look, with restyled lights and front and rear ends. Audi's Matrix LED headlights now come standard on the 45 Premium base trim, while the top-trim Prestige gets higher definition, laser-enhanced lighting. Inside, the infotainment system can now run apps like Spotify, Amazon Music, and YouTube wirelessly. The optional Executive package for the Premium Plus trim adds dual-pane acoustic glass, previously only available on the high-performance SQ7.
Trims and Pricing
The 2025 Audi Q7 is available in three trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. The Premium is the popular trim, but we recommend the Premium Plus. We'll explain why.
Premium
The Premium starts at $61,695 (including a $1,195 destination fee) with standard all-wheel drive and a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Features include 19-inch wheels, a sunroof, leather seats, heated eight-way power-adjustable front seats, wood trim, a 10-speaker audio system, a 10.1-inch infotainment screen, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, and adaptive cruise control.
Optional features include the Convenience package (heated steering wheel, surround-view camera, wireless phone charger) and a trailer hitch that increases towing capacity to 4,400 pounds with the standard 2.0-liter engine, or up to 7,700 pounds with the optional 3.0-liter V6 engine ($66,995).
Premium Plus
Priced at $65,495, the Premium Plus adds 20-inch wheels, ambient lighting, leather-wrapped armrest and center console, wireless charging, a surround-view camera, and a Bang & Olufsen premium audio system. It also includes lane-keeping assist and traffic jam assist.
Options include the 3.0-liter V6 engine ($70,795), the Executive package (four-zone climate control, dual-pane acoustic glass, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, rear sunshades), and the Black Optic appearance package, which adds black, gray, and dark chrome exterior accents.
We recommend the Premium Plus since it offers a high-quality audio system and useful features like the surround-view camera and lane-keeping assist. It also gives access to the extra luxuries in the Executive package.
Prestige
Pricing for the top trim starts at $79,095 and includes a standard 3.0-liter V6 engine, an adaptive air suspension, upgraded headlights, the Executive package features, upgraded leather, massaging front seats, a head-up display, and a self-parking system.
The optional Luxury package adds a suede-like headliner and additional leather-wrapped surfaces, while stand-alone options include an upgraded 23-speaker Bang & Olufsen surround-sound audio system and four-wheel steering. The Black Optic package is also available.
Engine and Performance
The 2025 Audi Q7's base engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder (261 horsepower, 273 pound-feet of torque) paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The responsive engine makes it easy to forget this is a big midsize SUV. Handling is crisp and sporty, but the taut suspension remains soft enough not to feel taxing on long drives.
For higher performance, the 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder delivers 335 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque and accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds — quick for a vehicle of its size. Shoppers who crave real performance from their family hauler will be happy with this engine.
The Q7's performance will satisfy most driving enthusiasts, but there are other options if you want a bit more oomph. The Audi SQ7 delivers a whopping 500 hp. The Lincoln Aviator makes 400 horsepower and a stout 415 lb-ft from its standard turbo six-cylinder. Volvo XC90 provides a plug-in hybrid option for better fuel efficiency.
Fuel Economy
The Environmental Protection Agency has not yet released fuel economy figures for the 2025 Audi Q7, but with no engine upgrades for the new year, they should mirror the 2024 model. The 2.0-liter engine achieves an estimated 19 mpg during city driving and 25 mpg on the highway. The 3.0-liter is rated at 18/22 mpg city/highway. It's a small fuel-economy sacrifice for the extra horsepower of the larger engine. The Volvo XC90 is more fuel-efficient, especially on the highway where the base engine returns 27 mpg and the upgraded engine returns 26 mpg. The XC90 also offers a plug-in hybrid model.
Interior
The Audi Q7's interior is focused on luxury. Rich leather trims, wood accents, and available faux suede create an upscale impression. Front seats are supportive and supremely plush, coddling passengers and making long trips easy.
Second-row passengers enjoy a luxury experience with available heated seats and ample room for 6-footers. The third row offers the same high-quality materials, but less luxury. The seats are stiff and too confining for most adults, and access is tricky, making the third row best suited to kids and shorter adults.
For cargo, there's 14.2 cubic feet behind the third row, 35.7 cubic feet behind the second row, and 69.6 cubic feet behind the first row. The BMW X7 has more space, providing 12.8, 48.6, and 90.4 cubic feet in those same three areas. A few of the Q7's midsize competitors, including the Lincoln Aviator and Acura MDX, offer more room behind the third row, and the Volvo XC90 has more maximum cargo space. But overall the Q7 is on par with most of its peers and ideally suits families who want a plush, luxury experience with room for cargo and a third row for occasional use.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The 2025 Audi Q7's clean, uncluttered set of tech features includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen. The expanse is elegant rather than overwhelming. The screens convey information clearly and quickly and can be customized to the driver's preferences. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Audio, a 10-speaker audio system, navigation, and HD Radio are all standard. For 2025, streaming apps including Spotify, Amazon Music, and YouTube can be installed and run from within the infotainment software, freeing your phone to simply be a phone.
A 19-speaker Bose surround-sound system is included on all but the base Premium. Audiophiles can get a 23-speaker Bang & Olufsen surround-sound audio system with the top Prestige trim. It's a fantastic system that includes key connectivity features and a clean, uncluttered design.
Safety
The 2025 Audi Q7 received a top five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not yet rated the 2025 model, but it gave the very similar 2024 Q7 its highest award of Good in all crashworthiness tests.
Standard safety features in the 2025 Q7 include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, active lane control, blind-spot monitors, front and rear parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver attention monitor. Available features include a front night-vision camera with pedestrian and animal detection, intersection assist, a surround-view camera, and traffic sign recognition.
Audi Q7 vs. theCompetition
The BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS have both been refreshed recently, making the Q7 a bit late to the party. Both are flashy and have more modern tech and infotainment, but both are also significantly more expensive. The Benz, specifically, starts about 30 percent higher than the Audi.
We also recommend looking at the Acura MDX, Volvo XC90, and Lincoln Aviator, which cost the same or less, but don't sacrifice any significant features or performance. And if you like the Q7 but want more excitement, the 500-horsepower Audi SQ7 may be just the thing.
